Book meme

At last, a book meme that doesn't ask me questions I can't answer, like what my favourite book is. This one's from communicator.

01. Do you snack while you read? If so, favourite reading snack?

I sometimes like a biscuit (oat is nice) or some chocolate if I make myself a cup of tea, my drink of choice for reading.

02. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?

I never even marked my text books!

03. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?

I use a coloured paper clip. It doesn't mark or hurt the book, it doesn't fall out, and I don't mind if I lose it when I return the book to the library.

04. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?

Mostly fiction. It's my big escape from RL and I need it. I find that I miss my fiction if I don't get enough of it.

05. Hardcopy or audiobooks?

Almost always paper. I do love being read to, but I can't really find the time. Reading is a lot faster.

06. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?

Nope, just till I'm interrupted or decide to do something else. It's often to the end of a scene, but doesn't have to be.

07. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? Write it down to look it up later? Just try to infer what it means from the rest of the sentence, and keep going?

Usually the last, but if I'm interested enough, I'll look it up on-line.

08. What are you currently reading?

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen. This is taking me a while because I don't really like Fanny Price. She's a boring and rather sanctimonious wimp.

Greenwitch by Susan Cooper, from her Dark is Rising series. It would have been Alexandria by Lindsey Davis, the latest of the Marcus Didius Falco books, but I just finished Pompeii by Robert Harris and I do like to mix genres and settings.

09. What is the last book you bought?

I can't remember. I don't buy many books as I can't afford it living here, especially with the number of books I read: at least two a week.

10. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can read more than one at a time?

Usually one, sometimes two. It depends on what I have; if I'm reading a book I own, like the Austen, then I can relegate it to background reading because I don't have to read it by a certain date. FWIW I usually borrow 5-6 books at once.

11. Do you like re-reading books?

Only if it's been ages since I read the book and the details have gone fuzzy so I can enjoy rediscovering the pleasure all over again. In the last couple of years I've reread quite a few books I loved as a child or teenager.
