Character hidden questions meme

My lolcats weren't very lol, so here's another one of those memes where you list a number of characters before peeking under the cut, then answer questions about them.

My lot are:

1 Vila Restal (Blake's 7)
2 Kerr Avon (Blake's 7)
3 Cally (Blake's 7)
4 Teal'c (SG1)
5 Sam Carter (SG1)
6 Rodney McKay (SGA)
7 John Shepherd (SGA)
8 Stark (Farscape)
9 Hiro Nakamura (Heroes)
10 John Locke (Lost)

Questions and answers about them

1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Fighter, Diplomat, Scientist, Eye-Candy? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?

Team 1 has leader John Shepherd (he's a proven one), fighter Cally (and she's delighted to be back at the sharp end), diplomat Vila (yes, he puts his foot in it, but he's friendly and harmless), scientist Sam Carter (no contest), and eye-candy Hiro because you just know he beats Vila on cuteness points, much as I love Vila).

Team 2 has leader Avon (I doubt he'd let anyone else be), fighter Teal'c (the guy's built like a brick cellblock), diplomat Locke (hey, most of the others would start a war), scientist Rodney (no contest again), and eye candy Stark (look, you tell me what other slot he'd fit into).

I think they're pretty much even.

2. Gender-swap 5, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex?

Sam Carter, Stark, and Locke. Hmm, things might have been a little different for Sam with his sexual organs on the outside, but you know, I think they'd all work just as well. Locke would have hair though.

3. Compare the matchups of 5/8 and 2/9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.)

Sam Carter and Stark? Nope; Sam's too logical and Stark's all over the place, so I can't see them even being friends, but Sam would be fascinated by what Stark could tell her of wormholes. The crossing over though she'd discount as the self-deception of an unstable mind.

Avon and Hiro depends on where in canon Avon is. S1 and S2 Avon would enjoy Hiro's humour and geekiness (though he wouldn't say so) and Hiro would be delighted by Avon's science-fiction-made-real universe. S3 Avon would be fascinated by Hiro's powers and want to test and understand them. S4 Avon would try to shoot him, but of course fail.

4. Your team is 3, 4 & 6. The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?

Cally, Teal'c, and Rodney: I'd pay to watch and listen to this! And this one's easy: social is Cally, mental is Rodney, and physical is Teal'c.

5. 7 becomes 5's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?

Shepherd is Carter's boss for a week. Eh, it's believable. She'd get on with it, and he's a good leader who doesn't expect anyone to do what he wouldn't.

6. 1 finds him/her/itself inserted into 9's continuity. As far as anyone other than 1 or 9 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 1 be presumed to have had in 9's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?

Vila in 'Heroes'? LOL, he'd be an unwilling one! Well, his power would be the manipulation of locks with telekinesis, but I don't see how that would affect Hiro's story as using teleportation and time travel would make Vila's skills a little superfluous. I'd like to see him added to the Hiro and Ando team though. That's another one I'd pay to see.

7. 3 and 7 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?

Cally and Shepherd. Hmm, they're both pretty reasonable and unselfish people, so I think they'd agree to have one each and share a third to benefit both their universes. Cally would go for the fall of the Federation, and Shepherd for making all Wraiths vegetarian, which would probably both have horrible and unforeseen results like alien invasion of the former Federation, possibly by Wraiths or Goa'uld, and the deforestation of most of the planets in the Atlantean galaxy. They suspect something like this based on their own extensive experience with Things Going Badly Wrong and decide for the third wish to reverse their previous two.

8. 2 and 8 are brainwashed by a one-time artefact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 1. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 1 survive? How?

Avon and Stark are after Vila! Well, if they don't kill each other first, and it's pretty likely given Avon's low tolerance for fools and Stark's tendency to shoot guns in completely indiscriminate directions, Vila could hide out, and when they're having a go at each other, open up the alien device despite any locks and turn it off.

9. 1, 6, 7 & 9 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?

Vila, Rodney, Shepherd, and Hiro. Shepherd dresses up as Santa because he'd enjoy it and neither Vila nor Hiro would know about that tradition. Vila juggles, does magic tricks, tells jokes, and has the time of his life being a big kid himself, Hiro, dressed in a Star Trek outfit, hands out plastic swords and light sabres and teaches them how to use them, grinning for ear to ear with joy. He also helps Vila's magic tricks by really disappearing, and stopping time so he can move things--best magic show ever. Rodney complains bitterly about being there till he discovers the kids who are geeks, and there's no holding him back: they all play computer games and Rodney talks so fast Hiro has to slow time slightly so the kids can understand him.

10. 4 and 10 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?

Teal'c and Locke would probably start off walking stoically together, then decide that some form of transport would be more efficient. Horseback and trains across land and steamers across the sea. They'd also get on really well, neither feeling a huge need to fill the silences with conversation, and both able to appreciate the simple life and the beauty of nature (though neither would say so).
